Star Wars is cool and all, but there’s a lot more to Disney + than galactic wars and Princess movies (which I also love)… BUT the most exciting thing for me on the platform is the wave of Halloween Disney nostalgia that washed over me when I saw some of the titles below. As a kid, every September I would anxiously await the October edition of The Disney Channel Magazine. Upon its arrival I would immediately tear it open to the TV Guide style listing of programming for the month, which included 31 days packed full of spooky fare. Basically everything on this list pre-1995 is super nostalgic for me, added some of the newer stuff on here, too… can’t vouch for it but looking forward to checking it out. Enjoy your spooky, not scary viewing:
Lonesome Ghosts (1937)
Mickey, Donald and Goofy – the OG ghost busters.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad (1949)
Ok so there’s maybe less than ten minutes of spooky stuff in this, but The Headless Horseman makes it all worth it anyhow.
Frankenweenie (1984 short + 2012 feature)
Tim Burton, a child mad scientist and the art of reanimation.
The Black Cauldron (1985)
Witches, goblins and a Skeletor-esque demon King with plans to raise an army of undead to take over the world. Also, Tim Burton worked on this as a concept artist.
Mr Boogedy (1986)
Hocus Pocus (1993)
Don’t need to say anything about this one. So synonymous with spooky Halloween, I can taste the candy corn just from looking at this image.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
The long raging debate… is it a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? Simple. It’s both.
Gargoyles (1994)
Basically Gothic superheroes
Halloweentown Film Series (1998)
Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge (2001), Halloweentown High (2004), Return to Halloweentown (2006)
Don’t Look Under the Bed (1999)
Can of Worms (1999)
Mom’s Got a Date With a Vampire (2000)
I think I saw this one. But I think it was called The Lost Boys. Just kidding. I’ll still give it a try.
Phantom of the Megaplex (2000)
The Scream Team (2002)
Twitches (2005)
Girl Vs Monster (2012)
Also putting my vote in for The Witching of Ben Wagner and The Watcher In The Woods
There you have it, ya creeps! Let me know your favorites and if there are any I should add to the list. Comment here or yell at me on the Instagrams or the YouTubes @itsanhel
